Italy: Interior Minister reveals that “many unaccompanied minor migrants are arriving in Lampedusa with instructions to travel to drug dealing points on the mainland”

According to Il Giornale , Italian Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi revealed during the "Parlate di mafia" event that migrant minors are being used in drug networks in Italy. He explained that in 2023, some minors who arrived in Lampedusa already had a "pizzino" indicating they were going to drug dealing spots in Rome, such as Tor Bella Monaca or San Basilio. According to him, these young people take advantage of the protection granted to foreign minors while working as lookouts for €100 to €200 per day. Municipalities spend a significant portion of their budget on these minors, many of whom are allegedly involved in drug trafficking, theft, petty crime, and sometimes sexual violence. Piantedosi called for "absolute intransigence" in the face of these phenomena, which threaten the security of neighborhoods, where gangs of foreign criminals fight for control of territories.
